Approach to Counselling

Dr. Morris’s holistic approach to treatment is informed by a number of traditions including cognitive-behavioural therapy, developmental psychopathology, and family systems. She values a collaborative relationship with her clients that focus on their areas of strength. She will work with you, your child, and your family to develop specific and achievable goals for counselling and work with you and your child to bring about the needed changes. Dr. Morris values lifelong learning and is very open to feedback. Dr. Morris also has training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

A child’s birth is a time is an exciting time filled with much joy. It can also be a very stressful time, disorientating time, and many mother experience the “baby blues”. This is an area of passion for Dr. Morris and she has experience working on maternal mental health issues in countries from around the world.

What to Expect

Therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes and include support, education, and therapeutic activities. The process is collaborative and therapeutic goals will be agreed upon together in the initial session. On-going monitoring of progress towards these goals will take place over the course of the treatment.

Fees

Services are provided on a fee-for-service basis at a rate of $225 per 50-minute session. Your Extended Health Care or Employee Assistance Plan may cover much of the cost and I am happy to work with your plan to maximize your coverage. The fees for psychological services can be claimed as a medical expense and are tax deductible.
